How to display the most used blocks section in the New WordPress editor

editor header

I’m sure I’m not the only one who thinks that the upgrade of the WordPress block editor in recent versions was done with anything but the regular users of the editor in mind.

There are many changes that not only do not make the content editor’s life easier, but also make it more difficult, making the writing process more tedious and complicated.

To begin with, the block inserter located in the editor, the + button next to the writing area, no longer shows all the blocks, but at least by using the integrated search engine you can access them quickly, instead of having to click again to see all the blocks (what were those who proposed this change thinking?)

But perhaps one of the changes that has less liked all those who usually use WordPress to write content has been the disappearance of the section or category of most used blocks, that section that appeared first in the block inserter, offering to add precisely the most common blocks, the most used, to make the writing process more fluid. And although it still remembers your last added blocks and adds them to the default view, it’s not the same.

Fortunately, it is easy to reverse this change so that we still have the most used block section.

Just go to the block editor options by clicking on the 3-dot icon at the top right and click on “Options“.

And on the options pop-up screen activate the checkmark called “Enable the Most Used Blocks category in the block library“.

Close the pop-up screen and you will have your most used block section in the block inserter, taking first place.

It may not be a big change but if you regularly use the WordPress block editor you will appreciate it, you will save time, it will help you create content, which is what the Internet feeds on.
