Bulk editing of posts and pages is one of those WordPress features that, although it has always been there, is one of the least used, because it is barely known, despite its usefulness.
It allows you, for example, to change author or close comments to dozens of posts or pages in just a few clicks, instead of having to open each post or page to edit it, make the changes, save, open the next one and so on.
Using WordPress bulk editing, you just select the posts or pages in the admin screen, select from the “Bulk Actions” dropdown the option to edit.
You will be able to make changes in settings to multiple posts and save them without having to open the editor even once, without leaving the admin screen.
It is also especially useful when we talk about products in an online store, allowing you to change prices with a percentage discount to all, change the inventory, validity of offers, taxes and many other small changes without having to edit each product.
If you didn’t know about this tool I guess we can end the post here right? RIGHT?!
Now, like any tool, it’s not perfect. For example, it doesn’t show all the possible adjustments you can make to a page, post or product, because it doesn’t integrate with all the themes and plugins.
Let’s talk about Astra?
As you may already know, the Astra theme is the one i recommend in WPHelp, for many reasons.
But there are 2 main reasons:
- One of the reasons is its loading speed and code optimization, currently beating all other themes.
- And the other is for the amount of customizations that allows you to do, not only globally, but especially in each post, page, product, etc.. This is one of the virtues that most distinguishes it from other themes, and what makes it stand out.
I mean, in the second point, that not only has lots of settings in the theme customizer that you can apply to the entire website, but in the editor you can define using the customizer settings or apply a different configuration on each page, entry, product, etc..
This is what all themes should be doing soon, soon we will be able to do full site editing using blocks, and the theme should allow us to decide what to show and how in each content.
Going back to bulk editing…
Well, wouldn’t it be great to also be able to use the WordPress bulk editing tool for Astra customization settings for multiple posts/pages/etc.?
Right now “you can’t”, simply because WordPress doesn’t recognize these Astra theme customization fields from the editor, and doesn’t display them.
But there is a solution: the Astra Bulk Edit plugin.
Just install the plugin like any other WordPress plugin and activate it.
Once it is active, when you bulk edit your posts, pages, etc. you will see that you already have at your disposal all the Astra customization fields.
This way, if you want to remove the sidebar to several pages at once, or make the header transparent on your blog page and front page, you have it with one click, without having to edit each content.
I hope that, whether you use the Astra theme or not, you have found this little tutorial useful and you feel more powerful.
